New Flyer of America and Robotic Research companies develop advanced driver assistance technology (ADAS) and deploy it in heavy-duty bus applications to promote the development of self-driving bus technology.

New Flyer invested a lot of money more than two years ago to evaluate technology suppliers for the development of autonomous vehicles. In the end, New Flyer chose Robotic Research, mainly because of the company's new technology based on artificial intelligence. In addition, the company has accumulated extensive experience in providing Level 5 autonomous vehicle applications for defense and intelligence agencies such as the U.S. Department of Defense.
The cooperation between the two companies will promote the technology research and development of Xcelsior CHARGE pure electric bus, which is equipped with SAE J3016 Level 4 ADAS technology, which is a highly automatic driving technology, which enables the vehicle to automatically complete all driving tasks and actively monitor the driving environment.
Closed track testing is expected in 2020. After announcing its partnership with the Robotic Research, New Flyer further supports the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Strategic Transit Automation Research Program, which aims to evaluate potential risks, impediments, and mitigation strategies associated with the implementation of automated bus driving. The plan also uses SAE J3016 automated driving classification and definition.
